Bex Tyson’s breakthrough season at Hampshire is turning heads — but she’s still wearing her Herts blue Crocs.

How have you been and how’s your new county?
I have been loving it at Hampshire, the environment is great and the girls are really supportive and welcoming!

What’s been the biggest change or challenge in your new setup?
I think the biggest change/challenge was definitely the winter. I absolutely loved the change but it made a big difference to my previous winters! I was training once a week before, now training 5 times a week. And it is incredible. The coaching staff are really great and supportive and I have learnt so much!

Who’s impressed you the most — on or off the field — in your new team?
I think Ella McCaughan has impressed me the most so far. Her ability to bat for a long time and in the smartest way is really exciting to watch. She plays the game incredibly well and she is also a jet in the field!

What goals are you working toward this year, both personally and with the squad?
My goals this year are personally to try to be as consistent and confident as possible when I have the ball in hand, whatever situation that is. Keeping speeds up whilst trying to turn the ball big and make breakthroughs for the team. With the squad, I think our goal this year is to show how strong we are in each competition. It’s quite a young side when missing key players for international duties, but the fact that we can still outplay oppositions is awesome to be a part of and watch.

How do you balance cricket with everything else going on in your life right now?
In winter, balancing cricket and work isn’t too tricky as I work as a cricket coach; however, when it gets to the season, it becomes pretty hard to find time to coach, so I ensure any rest time I have I spend with friends and family and recharge best I can.

What excites you most about the future in your current setup?
It’s the near future; however, I’m incredibly excited for Elyse Perry to join us in July for the rest of the Vitality Blast!

Looking back, what did wearing the Hertfordshire shirt mean to you?
To wear the Hertfordshire shirt meant everything to me. From when I was 11 years old and representing Herts for the first time, to returning and wearing it for the last. Every game I played for Hertfordshire was so much fun, and I made some of my bestest friends through the county.

If you could relive one moment with Herts — what would it be?
I think going to finals day last year was definitely one of the best times with Herts; however, my favourite memory and something I would love to go back and experience again was my first tour to Kent College with the U11s. We had so much fun on and off the field with talent shows, making up fun wicket celebrations during games, and having Annie Graves as our head coach always made it one to remember.

What advice would you give to the next wave of players coming through the pathway?
My advice to the next generation of Hertfordshire players would be to soak it all in, enjoy every second of it, and be the best version of yourself you can be. There will be tough times; cricket is like that, but just remember why you love the game, and the good times will ALWAYS outweigh the bad ?.

And finally… is there still a bit of Moosette in your game today?
100% - I still wear my Hertfordshire blue crocs to my Hampshire games! Never leave them behind!

It’s been great to catch up with Bex Tyson in what has been a busy debut season, including 3/27 at Old Trafford on the way to a commanding victory for Hampshire over Lancashire.

Elsewhere, Charley Phillips has been leading the attack for The Blaze. Elsa Barnfather is flying with the bat for Kent. Whilst the Northants contingent of Amelia Kemp, Mabel Reid and Ella Phillips, under the leadership of Gemma Marriott, are just off the top spots as we come into the second half of the summer.
